Okay, first and foremost, I want to apologize to Laura. I read her comment this morning, right after I got up and I was like, oh not she didn't and so I shot off a quick reply. I got in the car and headed to work and realized, that oh no, she really didn't do anything. See, folks, right here is a clear example of why I don't do anything before 8 in the morning. Not only am I grumpy as hell (The Fiance can verify this, I wouldn't be surprised if he broke his commenter silence for this one), but I also almost never think very clearly. Or rationally. So Laura, I am sorry. I was unnecessarily bitchy when you were just expressing concern.

Now, for the rest. I need help. And I'm not sure The Fiance will condone this 100%, but sometimes it's easier to ask forgiveness rather than permission (I totally see that phrase being thrown in my face in the future). We need a 1st dance song. We sort of have one, but it's very one-sided. I'm not going to tell you what it is, because if we do decide to stick with it and someone bad mouths it, well, that'd be awkward.

So here are my qualifications: not-onesided (i.e. can't be a man just singing about a woman or vice versa, though duets are not necessary), not-rap (bleh), preferably current-ish (one of the things I like is that you can tie your song back to a certain time, and I'd like to tie it back to now), a danceable rhythm, and as my aunt put it, "no references of carnal knowledge" (if you know what I mean).

Suggest away. And in the meantime, I promise I won't comment in the mornings anymore. Also, I have a semi-important appointment tomorrow and I could use good thoughts. I know I'm being vague, but it's completely not brain related, but still rather um, serious-ish.

Good thoughts and good music- those are what I need right now.

"At Last" by Etta James. Heard it at a friend's wedding and STILL get goosebumps when I hear it.

Ooooh, "At Last" is a terrific song. Todd & Lori had "When You Kiss Me" by Shania Twain as their first dance. It sounds carnal knowledge-ish, but isn't at all. In fact, I started a love affair with that song after hearing it while they danced to it. I don't know...it's really hard to say what would be the right song for you and The Fiance. Do you have any special songs between the two of you now, that would work?

Of course, I think it would be kind of humorous if somebody--not you, of course--but just somebody with an adventurous spirit chose "Highway to Hell" by AC/DC as their first song. HAHA, maybe? But I suppose one wouldn't want to go for funny and ironic at an expensive reception for which they have paid thousands, right? Okay, never mind.

Good thoughts, always...

Technically we have "our song" but it falls into the category of not a danceable rhythm.

It's "You're My Home" by Billy Joel. There are several covers, but none are either the right tempo, or aren't sung by someone whose voice bugs the bajezus out of us.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you what the "first dance" song was at my wedding. Some country duet - Tim McGraw/Faith Hill maybe? But I do remember the last song - "What a Wonderful World" performed by Louis Armstrong. Not contemporary at all, but very apropos for people living in N'awlins.

Good luck at the doctor tomorrow. Hope it turns out to be nothing serious.

ps - Part of my "word verification" is "luv." How wedding-y.

Oh man… this post got me listening to a lot of my music I haven’t listened to in a while… I have a few suggestions…

If you want fairly recent songs, “Because of You - Kelly Clarkson” or “This is my Now - Jordin Sparks” aren’t too bad (disclaimer: I don’t actually watch/listen to American Idol that much … just like these songs) ... “You Were Meant For Me – Jewel”, “I Need You – LeAnn Rimes”… there are others I think have great lyrics, but not so great tempos

I was also going to suggest “If You're Not the One - Daniel Bedingfield” ... but then listened to it again, and realized its about someone very unsure about their relationship... probably not the best!

If you’d like your song to send a message to a particular someone, play “Not Ready to Make Nice – Dixie Chicks”

Then of course there is anything by Celine Dion...

I wouldn't suggest Highway to Hell :D (or "You're So Vain" for that matter) haha...

Or… you could just say %$#! it, and use this (make sure to turn up your speakers) http://youtube.com/watch?v=UoY_1SItKHg

Visiting from DGM. I don't have any good suggestions for first dance songs that aren't overdone. I did have friends who entered the hall to Rock and Roll all night and were wearing KISS masks, so it's all good.

Hope you aren't preggers!

Ha. Definitely not pregnant.

Hahaha. I guess I probably shouldn't be as vague, or people might begin to think that, eh?

Sorry, my typo was so bad I had to start over:

It might not be the most current song of all time- but Elvis Presley's Can't Help Falling In Love With You is pretty timeless. That and I love, love At Last.

I also know someone who danced to Sail Away by David Grey and it was pretty romantic.

Okay, I came back to check on song suggestions and got the biggest BWAHAHAHAHA. YOU KNOW! :)

I just can't wait to see the invites. And I'm also going to do a little wedding first dance song research for you, while keeping the good thoughts going your way, and chuckling to myself every now and then over the ludicrosity of it all...hehehe.

And you DO realize, I hope, that I was JUST JOKING about "Highway to Hell"???? I figure, you know me WAY well enough to know when that's the case. Or do I overestimate the closeness of us?

BWAHAHAHAHA...

I have no idea what is even remotely current. I wanted a Randy Travis song at my wedding 16 years ago, so you KNOW I'm the wrong person to ask. :)

As to the Laura thing - the written word is such a difficult form of any emotional communication. It seems from both ends in this case. Ow.

And I like the Highway to Hell idea. Doesn't the groom dance with his mother at some point? :)

Oh! It's not the most current song, maybe not the most appropriate, but I've only recently heard and fallen in love with it: http://youtube.com/watch?v=bd2B6SjMh_w

How about "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, or the Iz (Israel Kamakawiwo Ole) version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? I LOVE "At Last", too, by Etta James like nola suggested. Very good choice. Good luck!

How about "Till there was you" by the Beatles?

I'm sorry. I can't think of anything, far as music goes. I think I have brain damage from the fumes in here. Yeah, that must be it, the reason I can't think.

"Everything" by Michael Buble.
BEST song ever. So sweet. =)
